“Consuming soaked moong dal daily has numerous benefits. It is power packed with a lot of nutrients which aids in digestion, supports immune function and improves overall health,” said Deepalakshmi, registered dietitian at The Cleft and Craniofacial Centre and Sree Balaji Medical College and Hospital, Chennai. Moong dal is also known as split green gram and it contains essential nutrients like iron, magnesium, copper, potassium and contains B-vitamins B, A, C and lots of fibre.

According to Deepalakshmi, soaked moong dal is a good source of protein and fibre which helps in weight loss, and aids in digestion. “Soaking the moong dal breaks the phytic acid present and there is a better absorption of nutrients like iron, zinc and calcium. It is low in glycemic index and a good snack for people with diabetes,” she said.
